OUTREACH: Bring Norlands to You

A Costumed Interpreter will visit your Class, Group, Community Event or Meeting with A Journey Into History Program.
Each 30-45 minute outreach program costs $150.00, plus mileage if over 100 miles roundtrip.
Program scholarships may be available to schools, thanks to the generosity of the Helen and George Ladd Charitable Corporation. A scholarship for up to one-half the total cost of the program may be awarded to schools in need.

The following outreach programs are available:
Life on the Farm
Grade 2+
Learn about the frugal lifestyle lived on Maine farms through interactive matching games using everyday artifacts of 1870's country life.
School Days, 1850s
Grade 2+
A schoolteacher recreates a typical day in a one-room schoolhouse. Your group will experience education of the era by role-playing scholars and using materials of the time, including slates, quill pens and early readers.
Fun and Games of Long Ago
Grade 2+
Even the games played long ago carried lessons with them. Indoor games, using materials at hand, show the rural way of life when leisure time was a reward for work well done.
To Market, To Market
Grade K through 2
Based on the award-winning book, Ox Cart Man by Donald Hall, students learn about how a farmer met the needs of his family and explore the idea of bartering to maintain a sustainable life style.
The Busy Cradle: Story of the Washburn Family
Grade 4+
An inspiring true tale of Maine history. A lively, interactive story where participants "become" the seven famous Washburn brothers and their three sisters. Instrumental in changing the face of politics and business, this amazing family is also the benefactor of this grand estate.
