Live-In 1870 History Experience
Your adventure awaits. Spend 24 or 48 hours on the farm. Imagine waking up and it is 1870.
The chores are waiting. The stove needs to be lit, water needs to be brought in, the oxen need tending, and eggs need to be collected. All around you, there is a bustle of activity as your 19th-century family begins the day with you.
A live-in at Norlands offer a hands-on experience of life in 19th-century rural Maine. You are immersed in the daily routine of farm life and become members of a 19th-century farm family in the farmer’s cottage. You help cook the meals and assist with the farm chores and the cleaning. Depending on the season, you might dry apples, make cider, collect sap and make maple syrup, or work in the gardens. In between chores and meals, you’ll attend school and tour the historic buildings and learn about the incredible Washburn family. Evening time is for games, stories, and popping corn.
