This sampler program is designed to give your students a taste of home life in the 1800s.
Participants are divided equally into three groups. Each group attends three, 50 minute programs.

The Sampler
School Days, 1853: Scholars go back to the basics of
reading, writing and 'rithmetic in the District #7 oneroom
schoolhouse. Experience education of the era by
role-playing scholars and using materials of the time,
including slates, quill pens and early readers.
Fun & Games: Even the games played long ago
carried lessons with them. Indoor games, using
materials at hand, show the rural way of life when
leisure time was a reward for work well done.
A Visit to the Farm Kitchen: Visit the Washburn
kitchen and discover how life was lived in 1870 rural
Maine. Compare and contrast modern life with that of a
farm child 150 years ago. Learn about where things
come from – farm or store.
