Journey into history
Programs for Students of All Ages

The Norlands’ offers 90-minute; half-day; and 24-hour live-in programs for elementary students, homeschoolers, boys and girls scouts, and other youth groups in addition to high school and college students.
Our educational programs take place in historic buildings on their original sites, just as they appeared in the 1800s. They include an 1853 one-room schoolhouse, 1883 gothic granite library, 1828 meeting house, 1867 Washburn mansion and farmer’s cottage, barnyard, and pasture land with animals.

Journey into History programs focus on different themes with activities that demonstrate how people of the past lived from day to day. Your group might go to school, do the wash, play games, cook a meal, work on the farm or hear the Washburn family's story. Each program helps students identify with the past and develop an appreciation for the present.
Costumed interpretive staff use hands-on activities, primary source documents, and authentic objects in our programs. Our programs are designed to meet the Maine State Learning Results and several programs have comprehensive pre-and post-visit materials to enhance your student’s experience.
